We've just come back from a great week at the Barn and I wanted to share some awesome places we found to eat.
First up was Sunday Lunch at the Old Smithy Inn in Welcombe.
The Old Smithy Inn is a 13th century thatched inn nestled at the top of the valley in Welcombe, set in stunning unspoiled countryside a mile from the sea on the north Devon Cornwall border. It is clear the Old Smithy Inn is a true community pub, with locally sourced ingredients, an ever changing line-up of beers and cider. They also focus on some pub classics one night a week - with full menu (https://static1.squarespace.com/static/5a86e280b1ffb6251b62ab58/t/5ca7bb76419202e91fcd5410/1554496422082/OS_Menu_Spring2019_V2.pdf ) - Thursday Pizza night and Friday Pie and a pint night caught my attention.
We took my parents, friends with small kids and the dogs and the smithy inn was great for all. We were there for Sunday lunch - served from 12 - 2:30pm - from £10.50.
I would advise booking ahead, as it was full. My only watch-out would be arrive before you are going to be hungry, food took a while to arrive. I'm not sure if that was just because the weather was so good they got caught out with more dinners than expected.
However when the food arrived it was great. My Dad is not normally a fan of a Pub Sunday Lunch, as he feels for the money he is often left disapointed, however the quality, variety of food on the plate and cost got a massive thumbs up from my Dad - and the group as a whole - which is quite something. Well Done Old Smithy Inn.
Why not give the Old Smithy Inn a try when you are visiting Higher Forda.
